Trauma
Whether you have lived through trauma with a capitol “T” or multiple lower case “t” traumas, the hurts of our lives can linger and keep us from moving forward with confidence and joy. I use a gentle, eclectic approach with trauma work, incorporating elements of parts work, compassionate witnessing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
Couples
I work with couples preparing for marriage, adjusting to parenthood, or recovering from betrayal. I draw on the work of John and Julie Gottman, Terry Real, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
Emerging Adults
Today’s world presents new and complex challenges to young people who are coming into their own. I assist clients with career choices, romantic relationships, identity formation, boundaries, processing past hurts, and finding their unique path forward.
Adoption
Whether reading the word “adoption” brings up joy or pain, if adoption has touched you personally the word most likely activated a strong emotion of some type. Adoption is a complex reality that involves deep pain and abandonment as well as rich love and fulfillment. Having worked in both international and domestic adoption for nearly 10 years, my knowledge of the processes of adoption aids me in my work with adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents.
Christian Counseling
If you identify as a Christian and would like to incorporate your faith into your counseling, I have been specifically trained to do this. I am happy to assist you in your journey to more fully understand yourself and your relationship to God.
Pre-Marital/Pre-Engagement
The decision to marry is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. I find it a joy and honor to sit with couples as they explore the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship, learn healthy communication techniques, and talk through areas of differences to find common ground.
Women
As women we are pulled in a hundred directions and called upon to wear a myriad of hats. Between the roles of wife, mother, daughter, sister, employee, boss, and friend it can be hard to find our selves. Trying to meet the expectations associated with all of these different roles leaves little time to process the past, appreciate the present, or dream about the future. I offer a safe and quiet space to do all three, using somatic, mindfulness, and artistic techniques.
Grief & Loss
Grief comes in many shapes and sizes and can pass quickly or slowly. We grieve for not only the loss of loved ones, but the loss of dreams, jobs, or seasons of life. We experience grief when we encounter infertility, pregnancy loss, chronic illness, or challenges with our marriages or children. While grief is neither linear nor simple, having a trusted companion to bear witness without expectations can ease the suffering. If you worry that your grief is too big and will overwhelm you, let me sit there with you and bear some of it for you. There is no need for you to be alone.
